Nakagawa Ward Office In Nagoya

Nagoya LIVE --:--:-- JST

About the Nakagawa Ward Office Camera

This camera looks over the Nakagawa Ward Office in western Nagoya, and it is deliberately ordinary. Nakagawa is one of the city's sixteen wards, a low-rise mix of housing, small factories and shopping streets on the flat ground between central Nagoya and the Shonai River.

The ward takes its name from the Nakagawa Canal, dug in the 1930s to link the city to the port and largely filled in during the post-war decades. What is left is a district that most visitors never see, which is precisely what makes the view interesting: this is what the great majority of Nagoya actually looks like.

The pace is domestic. Residents come and go from the ward office during business hours, the car park fills and empties, and the surrounding streets carry local rather than through traffic. It is a useful camera for checking Nagoya's weather away from the towers of the centre.
