The Real-Time Earthquake Alert Channel

This is a monitoring channel rather than a scenic camera. It relays real-time earthquake and seismic information for Japan, and for long stretches there is nothing happening on it at all — which is the normal and desirable state.

Japan sits where four tectonic plates meet, which is why it records a large share of the world's seismic activity. The national early warning system detects the fast-moving P-wave that arrives first and issues an alert before the slower, more destructive S-wave reaches populated areas. That gap is often only seconds, but it is enough to stop trains and halt industrial processes.

Treat this channel as supplementary. It is a third-party relay, and it should not be relied on as a primary safety source. For official warnings, evacuation instructions and tsunami advisories, always use the Japan Meteorological Agency and your local municipality.
