Tanukikoji 4-chome
About the Tanukikoji 4-chome Camera
This camera covers 4-chome, roughly the midpoint of Tanukikoji, Sapporo's oldest shopping arcade. The street runs about a kilometre east to west across seven blocks, and each block has its own character.
4-chome sits in the busiest stretch, close to the Tanukikoji subway access and within a short walk of Susukino. Drugstores, souvenir shops and restaurants dominate here, and the mix of local shoppers and visitors is fairly even.
The arcade roof is the point. Sapporo takes around five metres of snow a year, so a covered kilometre of shopping street has real practical value — you can see people walking through in shirt sleeves while it snows outside.
