Shimosuwa Rowing Park

Nagano LIVE --:--:-- JST

About the Shimosuwa Rowing Park Camera

This camera looks over the rowing park on the Shimosuwa shore of Lake Suwa, where the sheltered northern end of the lake gives a stretch of flat water long enough for a training course.

Rowing has a long history on Suwa. The lake is shallow, largely free of current, and ringed by hills that break the wind, which makes it unusually reliable water for a sport that depends on a calm surface. School and university crews train here through the warmer months.

It is a quiet camera. Boats are out at predictable times — early morning and late afternoon in season — and outside those windows the interest is the lake surface itself, which is a fair indicator of wind conditions across the whole basin.
