Sendai Station
About the Sendai Station Camera
This camera covers Sendai Station, the transport centre of Miyagi and of the Tohoku region as a whole. The Tohoku Shinkansen, several JR conventional lines, the subway and the regional bus network all converge here.
Sendai is by some distance the largest city in Tohoku, with a population approaching a million, and it functions as the region's administrative and commercial base. Its nickname, the City of Trees, comes from the zelkova avenues that run through the centre — Jozenji-dori is the best known, and it stays green enough in summer to change how the whole district feels.
The station is also the focus of the Sendai Tanabata Festival each August, one of the three great festivals of Tohoku. Enormous paper-and-bamboo streamers hang through the arcades around the station, and the crowds are on a completely different scale from an ordinary week.
