About the Nosokogawa River Camera
This camera watches the Nosokogawa, a river in the Iida area of the southern Ina valley, and is run by the local cable operator.
It exists to show water level. Rivers draining the steep ground on either side of the Ina valley respond quickly to rain — a stream that is placid in dry weather can rise substantially within hours of heavy rainfall, and the mountains here catch a great deal of it during the rainy season and typhoons.
That makes this a monitoring camera rather than a scenic one. In settled weather it shows a modest river in a channel and little else. Its value comes on the days when that changes, and for anything official the relevant sources are the Japan Meteorological Agency and Iida city.
