Niseko Hanazono Resort

Hokkaido LIVE --:--:-- JST

About the Niseko Hanazono Resort Camera

This camera watches the slopes at Niseko Hanazono, one of the four connected ski areas that make up Niseko United on the flanks of Mt. Niseko Annupuri. Hanazono is known for its tree runs and terrain parks and draws a large international crowd each winter.

The region is famous for some of the most consistent powder snow in the world, driven by Siberian cold air crossing the Sea of Japan. Outside winter, the same slopes host hiking and mountain biking.

The snow totals are the reason people fly a long way for this. Niseko's seasonal accumulation is commonly quoted at somewhere around fourteen metres, produced by Siberian air picking up moisture as it crosses the Sea of Japan and dropping it on the first high ground it meets. Hanazono faces the north-east side of the mountain, which keeps that snow in better condition later into the day than the sunnier aspects.
