Kyoto Station Live Cam JR
About the Kyoto Station Camera
This camera covers Kyoto Station in Shimogyo ward, where the Tokaido Shinkansen, JR conventional lines, the Kintetsu line and the city subway all converge. For most visitors to Kyoto this is the arrival point.
The building is the fourth on the site and by far the most argued-over. Completed in 1997 to a design by Hiroshi Hara, it is a 470-metre slab of steel and glass dropped into a city known for restraint — the opposition at the time was fierce, and opinion has never fully settled. Inside, the Grand Stairway climbs 171 steps up the atrium.
It functions as a destination in its own right as much as a transit point, with a department store, hotel and theatre inside the complex. Passenger flow is heaviest around the Shinkansen concourse and at the north exit facing the city.
