Kitami Tokoro Kisen Intersection

Hokkaido LIVE --:--:-- JST

About the Kitami Tokoro Kisen Intersection Camera

This camera covers the Kisen intersection in Tokoro, a coastal district of Kitami City on Hokkaido's Okhotsk Sea side. Tokoro has built a national reputation in curling, producing multiple Olympic-level teams from its local ice halls.

The area's economy also runs on Okhotsk fisheries, particularly scallops, and this camera view is mainly useful for checking road and weather conditions along the district's main route.

Inland Kitami sits in a basin, which gives it some of the widest daily temperature swings in Japan, warm afternoons and sharply cold nights within the same twenty-four hours. On the coast at Tokoro the concern in winter is different: ground blizzards, where wind lifts already-fallen snow and cuts visibility on a clear day. If this junction looks white and indistinct without snow falling, that is usually what is happening.

Highlights & Nearby

  • Watch for: road traffic at the intersection, weather and visibility, snow accumulation in winter
  • Nearby: Tokoro curling facilities, the Okhotsk Sea coastline, central Kitami
  • Note: poor visibility here often means blowing snow across the wider Okhotsk coast
