About the Japan Earthquake Alert Relay Camera
This is a monitoring and alert channel rather than a camera. It relays earthquake early warnings, seismic readings, tsunami advisories and rain radar for Japan, with automated voice announcements. For long stretches nothing happens on it, which is the normal state.
It is the second such channel on the site, and works the same way as the first. Japan sits where four tectonic plates meet, and the national early warning system detects the fast P-wave that arrives ahead of the slower, more damaging S-wave. The warning is often only seconds, but enough to stop trains and halt machinery.
Treat it as supplementary. It is a third-party relay and should never be your primary source in an emergency. For official warnings, evacuation instructions and tsunami advisories, always use the Japan Meteorological Agency and your local municipality.
