Aomori Station Front

Aomori LIVE --:--:-- JST

About the Aomori Station Front Camera

This camera looks over the area in front of JR Aomori Station, the main rail hub of Aomori City at the northern tip of Honshu. It has long served as a jumping-off point toward Hokkaido, historically by ferry and now via the Seikan Tunnel and Shinkansen.

The waterfront nearby is home to ASPAM and the retired ferry Hakkoda Maru, while the station itself remains the city's transit and shopping hub.

The plaza changes character sharply with the calendar. For most of the year it works as a plain transit forecourt, with buses pulling in and commuters crossing toward the shopping streets. In early August the Nebuta Matsuri brings the biggest crowds Aomori sees all year, with illuminated floats paraded through streets a short walk from here. From December into March the same ground spends much of its time under snow that is cleared and then falls again the same day.
